Body is uniformly brown, and about three inches long. The front legs are enlarged at the base, and the wings are large and overlap the abdomen.
Habits. These insects inhabit lakes and ponds where they are predators of other insects and small animals, including frogs. They have piercing mouthparts and suck the blood from their prey. They can fly long distances and can be found far from water. These bugs are attracted to lights at night, especially commercial lighting; they fly around lights making a loud buzzing noise.
