Water Strider

Adult is about 3/4 inch long, and brown to blackish brown. The mid and hind legs are long; the front legs are short. The adults have short wings, but they can fly.

Habits. These insects are capable of walking on the surface of the water; they occur in lakes, pods, and slow—moving streams. They are predators of other insects. Water striders are sometimes found in swimming pools, but they do not bite.
