Body color pattern varies from yellowish orange to nearly red, and this beetle may have no spots or more than 20. The adult lives several years, and its color may change.
Development. Eggs are deposited in batches of 20 on the underside of tree leaves; hatching occurs in three to five days. Larval development is completed in 12 to 14 days. The pupa is attached to the leaf surface and emerges as an adult in 5 to 6 days. There are two or three generations per year; adults live two to three years.
Habits. Adults fly to natural and ultraviolet light indoors. Adult beetles select overwintering sites on the warm sides of buildings.
