Sawtoothed Grain Beetle

Adult is brown to reddish brown; the pronotum has six teeth on the lateral margins.

 

Development. Eggs are laid singly or in small clusters; hatching is in about 16 days. Larval development takes 12 days; larvae construct a pupal chamber from food material. Adults live for about 19 weeks. There are six or seven generations per year.

 

Habits. This is the most common pest of grain and cereal products. It is the beetle that will be found in noodles, cake flour, and meal.
