Adults are about one inch long; the body is dark and shiny brown to blackish brown. Pronotum is blackish brown, anterior margin is pale brown; wings are light brown. Wings extend to the tip of the abdomen; antennae are about one-third the length of the body. Nymphs are dark brown.
Egg case contains 14 to 48 eggs, and it is carried internally until the eggs hatch in about 35 days. Development is 127 to 184 days. Adult females live about 307 days.
Habits. It occurs in greenhouses, and occasionally around potted plants in shopping malls, hotel lobbies, and similar sites.
It occurs along the Gulf coast and into coastal South Carolina and North Carolina. It is established in Hawaii.
